The total cost to us was about ~$1000 for the blinds, and a builder quoted us $1800. So we technically saved $800 by DIY but wasted a lot of time on the phone and at Bunnings trying to fix up the order.

Personally it took us 5 weeks to get our blinds. The first 2 weeks went silently because Smart Home Products cancelled the order as Bunnings had put something incorrectly or something. Then when we did it again and Bunnings put a rush on it we called back asking if we could pick up and Smart Home Products said they hadn't started on it. They promised to start that day.

They are easy enough to install, just drill the right sized hole and bolt in. Beware the cords are probably in the wrong layout when you unroll the blind. Put it up this way and you'll have to do it again. The cord is also wedged under the wooden bar, not ideal if you want a flush installation but what can you expect for a premade fit-all product.

If you need a custom (longer) drop, this is the trouble. We needed one, as 240cm would leave a knee high gap under. You have to special order at Bunnings. Each blind has a cut fee of $85 in addition to the custom cost.

Once Bunnings puts the order in it gets sent to Smart Home Products. This is where it gets hairy. If there are any problems with the way the order is put in, Smart Home Products will not do the order. It won't even notify Bunnings that it has cancelled the order. So it is important to call Bunnings regularly and have them call Smart Home Products.

Thought I'd share my experience. These are premade blinds available from Bunnings in a few colors. They come in 240 drops and widths from 120-300cm in 30cm increments. Cost from $60-$150. Then you need to buy joiners and extenders to change your widths by 5 or 15cm.

They obviously don't work very fast, because 4 blinds took them more than a week to make.

Eg if a 120x240=$60 then a 120x260=$75+$85=$160. For most homes where you have 3 sides to cover and the long side is over 300cm (thus needs 2 joined blinds) you are looking at an extra $320 for the cut fee. Also note that a joiner will most likely not work, as the blinds are not straight and a 10cm gap at the top may be a 15cm gap at the bottom. We couldn't join ours.
